Timothy Whelan is a Professor of English at Georgia Southern University. He has published widely in British Romanticism and Religious Dissent, especially women writers and booksellers, including articles on Mary Hays, Elizabeth Hays Lanfear, Martha Gurney, Mary Lewis, and Maria de Fleury, as well as a monograph on Mary Steele, Mary Scott, and other members of the Steele Circle. He was the general editor of an 8-volume edition (Pickering & Chatto, 2011) of the complete works of Steele, Scott, and the nearly twenty women affiliated with the Circle.
